During cardinal of the PGC seminars, the module leader talked about undertaking a egotism reflective exercise in order to evaluate your receive educational activity session. In the past I had through near brief reflection on my teaching, but had never done it as a proper reflective exercise where I sat d admit with paper and a pen. After teaching third years medical students for 90 minutes on COPD I sat down for 20 minutes and reflected on the session and entangle it to be a very reusable exercise. I had a clear sense of the beas which I felt went well and segments which did not go quite so well. Although it could be argued that it is better to consider soul else provide you with feedback, often I find that I contribution the same thoughts as the observer or student. On the former(a) hand, you could certainly argue feedback from the students is more important then your own self appraisal, particularly as the teaching is for their benefit. It might be that the teacher is oblivious to certain weaknesses, or that the lecturer is both too self critical of their teaching or that they are too confident with their teaching and do not hold where they could improve.



I certainly dont believe that doing a self reflective exercise should be done quite of formal feedback from students but it certainly has a place on base it.

When undertaking a presentation on government benefits which I delivered to fellow GP trainees, I thought having some feedback from each of the students would be useful in my development as a teacher. I thought the best way would be to provide each student with an evaluation form, (same form as used for PGC observed teaching) which each of the 14 trainees kindly modify out.
