Giovanni Bautista

For the artistic creation Critique assignment I chose to visit the Art lend of . While I had previously visited the Art Institute nearly a decade ago I leave finding myself being tot bothy amazed at the steady and complexity present in all of the art sue I saw; however, it was the Virgin and Child with Saints Dominic and Hyacinth, painted by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo from 1730-1735 that called to me and most moved me.
This particular painting, using the medium of crude oil on canvas, spoke loudly to me and beckoned me to stand in look of it and gaze upon it for what seemed like a very long time, although in reality I probably only stood in regard of it for approximately five minutes. As expected, and learned about in Workshop One, the Virgin, or Madonna, is robed in blue. Further I apprehension the painting to be polychromatic with the extensive affair of colors surrounding the Madonna floating above the altar, which is cloaked in a richly appointed tapestry portrait the mysteries of the rosary. It also expects that the infant is reaching out to Saint Dominic to support him a Rosary, which is consistent with the fact that Saint Dominic had founded a preaching order that was closely associated with the use of the Rosary as a spiritual exercise.

Once I was able to take in all that was going on in the scene I was able to look at the mechanics of the painting. This painting is all the way symmetrical in design with the Virgin sitting up and in the center of the work. I felt the lines were thick and lead uprightly as their primary direction. Further evidence of the vertical lines is shown in the background of the painting with what appears to be columns and drapery; all revealing vertical lines.
