Alduous Huxley: Brave New founding
Evaluated in heat of Contemporary Society
In Alduous Huxleys Brave New World he paints a disturbing yet potentially discerning picture of a auberge, characterized by human misery and oppression. In this society, the idea of democracy no longer exists. Men and women argon created, but no longer born, into a certain illuminate; important being the highest ranked. To say the least, Huxleys vision of what society will become in the future, is a bit dramatic. However, when evaluated in light of contemporary society, his ideas appear to be slightly prophetic.
indoors the outset few chapters of the novel, certain aspects of the society are explained. some immediately, the reader notices that conformity is a study factor in the procedure upon which society is based; The Bokanovsky Process. In this process, each class is brain-washed, so to speak, to live, come back, and act a certain way. This method is believed to be one of the major instruments of social stability (Huxley, 7). At first glance, this appears to have no relation to modern society. However, subtly, we are taught what to think and how to live and act; by what we see on television, notice on the radio, etc.
Though this isnt displayed as boldly as in Huxleys novel, we are taught what is and isnt socially acceptable.
other important part of social stability in Huxleys novel is outward appearance. While given a round of the Central London Hatchery and Conditioning Centre, the visitors are shown a vernal boy who proves this theory to be correct. While in the inwardness in Elementary Class Consciousness he recites; Alpha children wear grey . . . They are too stupid to be able . . . (Huxley, 27). Based on this quote, look plays a major factor in this society. The members of higher caste are taller and to a greater extent attractive, and dress differently than members of lower caste.
