The first thing that comes to thought is in the story Interpreter of Maladies, the Das family seem to be in between cultures, The family looked Indian but dressed as foreigners did.
so there is in Mrs Sen the idea that she is suggling to live without her family in a foreign country...
And then in The Third and Final Continent the fibber moves to a foreign country and has to deal with the cultural changes and is greatly assisted by Mrs Croft who also helps him connect with his wife.
